Being highly analytical person that observes the market conditions, I felt that entrepreneurship is the main growth factor in the United States. Companies are afraid to hire because they do not see a way out for this economy yet. There are too many unknown factors, expecially in California. Close to 1 million businesses left California the last few years because of the economic cliamte and the chaos that exists in Sacramento. When business is unsure, wages are mitigated to the minimum, making purchasing powere difficult for the average consumer, keeping the unemployment figures up high. It is a bad case scenario for me, as I never completed my degree program, because I worked for the Federal Government, and they trained you, which meant, at the time, that I did not need a degree. Now I am paying the price, but when I think about my children, how the educational level is falling, I just cringe, in hopes of seeing a better United States. I do not know how other countries are doing but from what I am reading, not too well.

Thank you, Great question. This is a matter of respect and courtesy to others. At the beginning of your next meeting I would discuss it with that person. Rather than tell them right out I would ask that person, "If you have someone you respect and the meeting habits are negatively affecting other people. How would you address if you want those habits to stop but you do not want to upset the other person." I would listen carefully to their answer and then go from there. If the habits continue after that discussion, I would inform that during group meetings if they continue we will be locking the door because you are being unfair to the other people. Then I would do it. If it is a one-on-one meeting I would just leave and not come back that day. They need to understand that it is important to show respect to the people you are working with and that you need to honor your commitment for that meeting or do not agree to have it until you will give the proper attention it deserves.

Hello Howard,

Thanks for sharing your insight on the condition of JMH. Much can be said about the structure and operational effectiveness or lack of, at JMH. I find that the organization has failed to evolve their business model with to the contours of society and most importantly to the patients being served. As you also pointed out the laws that protect ones right to access to medical care have also failed to address the socio-economic complexities that have evolved into a giant mess.

I wonder how we as members of the community can inject reason and logic into the equation before the entity crumbles completely? Best Regards Charles

Howard, well said. I don't think you can overstate the importance of goal setting. Not only do they tell you where you're going, but also where you've been. I also believe that this is applicable to any aspect of life - business or otherwise.

Your 5 critical elements of goals are a wise expansion on the SMART model, in that they don't just illustrate "what" goals should look like, but "how" they should act:
1. Goal Clarity -
2. Goal Quantity -
3. Alignment -
4. Commitment
5. Urgency

Bottom line,
I like it!

Definitely believe that which you said. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the internet the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get irked while people think about worries that they just don't know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top and defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people can take a signal. Will likely be back to get more. Thanks

Anyone can come up with analysis for or against anything. Sometimes decisions need to be made based on a more instinctual business sense with a clear understanding of vision, direction & means. Consensus is a great way to make sure there are no underlying considerations which might have been overlooked but not to make the decision itself. Thank you Howard for bringing this up!

It can be frustrating when a business struggles with change, change can, to some, be a place of uncertainty. working on some small areas first can help to bring the team around and allow them to adjust before taking on the bigger areas. It is also good to work on their beliefs and perseptions to help them see why they are continuing to do what they do, there must be some 'pay off' which they feel out weighs the pain the company is feeling by not changing.

" I agree wholeheartedly with the entire article you wrote. It must be in the air about lack of customer service - we posted something very similar today. As far as Aruba - we have been traveling there since the 1970's, obviously that is a country and its population that "get it". It has become the litmus test of every other place we have traveled to. There are plenty of people and companies that could learn a ton. It is a shame that technology advancements have created a disrespectful culture."

TOTALLY agree, Howard. In my short time as a small business owner, I got way more done in a short period of time than I ever did in person. I found it easier to get to the point on the phone, where as in person I wanted to beat around the bush a little more. Anyone wanting to accelerate their company growth should read this article and take some serious notes.

Im so glad you drew the inferences on the Heat's coup into the overarching lessons that can be learned by business leaders, to attract and retain top talent in their organizations. It is all about looking for those who want to win, attracting them to your organization, and then giving them enough of what they need so they want to stay!

This article is right on target. I've been struck recently when watching episodes of "undercover boss" how isolated the C-Suite is and how most CEOs really are clueless, even when they have positive belief systems, about what goes on in the trenches. For every C-suiter that is out walking around, talking to people, finding out the truth, there are 100 living in the tower. This leads to many of the bad decisions and poor results and moans of "we can't get good help around here!" I was fortunate to meet Xerox CEO Kerns many years ago and impressed with the fact that he was out talking to line workers at every opportunity, willing to hear the truth even when he didn't like it, and his results were outstanding; bringing the company back from the brink. He knew how to listen. We could use a few more like him.

I think something important to keep in mind is succession planning. Since "A" players are so valuable and important, when one of them leaves, it is very important to have already selected and trained someone to take his place.

I only shared in my article what a well regarded economist shared with the group. The purpose of this article is not to explain the reason for inflation. It is to discuss the findings of an economist that has been highly accurate in his predictions. If you would like to understand how they do their work please go to http://ecotrends.org/ to learn more about their forecasts. The fact is that if we have inflation and it is a lot what should you do? I am not concerned about how we got there.

If I read the inflation news correctly, London Bank is essentially saying that inflation occurred because of fiscal policy (lower VAT rate) which should be remedied soon with higher VAT rate. Given that (1) the definition of inflation is too much money chasing too few goods ... and (2) that the UK economy has a lot of excess capacity ... how can the CPI increase solely because of fiscal policy?
